Interstellar Musings

Nolan's Interstellar is mind blowing! It's such a nuanced and layered work of art that just one 'watching' is barely sufficient to appreciate all of its achievements. IMHO, like poetry, one shouldn't aim to understand the meaning of it all. Because, "once you abandon the search for meaning you're more likely to stay with the poem" (that piece of wisdom is from a memoir on Wittgenstein by G. Caples). I came out of the hall wanting to learn more about the cosmic significance of some of Thomas Dylan's lines in "Do not go gentle into that good night", which gets recited more than once in the film. I came out pretty convinced that love is not just an emotion but a force that can change our lives, and not just metaphorically. May be I should understand what Lennon really meant in some of the lines in "All you need is love" (Nothing you can know that isn't known; Nothing you can see that isn't shown; Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be; It's easy.). I can see how these lines can throw some light on some of the scenes in Intersteller. Matters of humanities apart, the film also rekindled my adolescent fascination for things like time travel, questions like 'are we alone?', and paranormal phenomena. As a child, I used to truly believe that dead ancestors in the family were always around looking at all that I did! Interstellar has a scene that visualizes very convincingly the possibility of other dimensions of space and time that may be coexisting with our own! Go watch it if you haven't already!

Excerpt from Hernan Casciari's 'Messi is dog'

I discovered today, watching that video, that Messi is a dog. Or a dog-man. That's my theory, I'm sorry that you made it this long with better expectations. Messi is the first dog that plays football. It has a lot of sense that he doesn't care about the rules, maybe he doesn't even understand them. [Read more]

Lanterns (A translation of the song Cherathukal from Kumbalangi Nights)

All through these lanterns, with fiery hot memories of you with a bunch of beautiful kisses that were never given in this swirling deep darkness as much I can, I’ll burn Cooling the hard pain in the world, like a chilly wind in the morning, I’ll flow Toweling off the wet body of dawn, like [Read more]
